Thank
you for your interest in the work of the National Academy
of Public Administration. At the Academy, we recognize the importance of protecting
the privacy of any information you provide us during your
visit to our website. Because we share your interest in privacy,
we have developed this privacy policy to answer your questions
about what information we collect from you and how that information
is handled. If you have any additional questions or concerns,
please email them to our webmaster at webmaster@napawash.org
What information
do you gather?
Like most websites,
the Academy's website will collect certain non-identifying
information in order to improve the quality of the website. This information includes the type of browser and operating
system you are using; what site you came from; what pages
you accessed on our web site; and what searches you conducted
on the website. We
also collect data on your domain name; internet service provider;
and the date, time and duration of your visit.
You may visit our
web site without sharing any personal data.
Absent a specific request, a visit to napawash.org
will not result in a follow-up contact from the Academy.
If you register for a program, order a publication,
join in a discussion group, or otherwise participate in an
activity, you will be specifically asked to provide personal
information, including contact information. We will not be able to process such transactions without that information.
Who sees my personal
data?
It
is the policy of the National Academy of Public Administration
not to sell personal data to third parties. As a rule, the information you provide us is used only for internal business purposes and is available
only to the staff, consultants, and contractors who need access
to the information to perform their job. There are, however, some important exceptions that are listed below:
If
you register for a conference. Lists of participants at conferences are usually shared with conference participants. In addition, at times we may share mailing information
for conference registrants with affiliates.
If
you provide public comment on a project or project panel. The Academy solicits the opinion of the public
on its projects and panels. Such comments about projects, however, are usually
part of the public record and are open to review by those
who request access to comments.
If
you join a discussion group. If you join a discussion group, your email address
will be available to anyone who browses the page or uses that
area of the website. Please use caution when posting information on discussion pages. We cannot control the e-mails that result from a posting to our website.
If you update membership information. Information updates through the web, when they become possible, will be handled through a secure connection. We do use the information you provide about yourself for in-print and on-line membership directories. Distribution of Fellow directories is limited to the Fellows and Academy staff. Fellow on-line directories are located on password protected pages of the website. Some of the Academy's Program Concentrations have membership
groups that have listed participants' contact information
on our website. In all cases, this directory information is
limited to name, address, telephone number, fax number, and
email address.
If
we have a legal obligation to share information. We will comply with any court order seeking information. We will also provide information to any government
agency if we believe we have a legal obligation to do so.
If
you send in an inquiry about public administration. When possible, we try to respond to your questions about public administration. This
frequently requires us to forward questions to experts outside
our office. If you send us a request for information, please
be aware that your request may be forwarded in such a manner.
How does the Academy
support the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule?
The National Academy
of Public Administration encourages parents and guardians
to be aware of the sites visited by their children. In general, our website will not contain content that is reasonably considered unsuitable for children. In addition, we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. We do not take specific steps to protect the personal information
children may provide us.
How do I update
personal information?
We will soon offer
our Fellows and consortium members the ability to update information
on the web. Until
then, if you are a Fellow of the Academy please contact ltrahan@napawash.org with updated information. If you are a member of the Human Resources Management Consortium, please contact chrm@napawash.org and if you are a member of the Performance Consortium, please contact abrown@napawash.org.
How is my information
protected?
We are working to
establish secure connections for financial transactions and
membership updates. Until
those arrangements are complete, you will not be able to use
this website for those purposes. Once we have the arrangements in place and this website
has those functions, we will include information here about
our encryption programs.
What are cookies
and should I worry about them?
Our website uses cookies
to track non-identifying information about you so we may improve
our website. We also use them to manage our "members
only" pages. However, you may always elect to refuse
cookies. Please refer to your browser Help instruction
